The Cable Show 2012

A Stage for Cable's Next Generation

When a flash mob led by dancers wrapped in skin-tight green suits takes command of the exhibit floor, you know something special is going on. And it was. Next-gen apps, products, ideas and people took the stage at Imagine Park for three days of idea-sharing, application-building and product introductions. When it was finished, the collective contributions spoke volumes about cable's contribution to making digital media - and digital living - even better.

Among the fast-paced series of Imagine Park events: A 48-hour app-development competition among college whiz kids, a live student debate about digital media, dozens of new technology demonstrations and lots of on-stage dialogue about where digital applications are taking the world.

Here's what Imagine Park brought to The Cable Show 2012 in just three days:

  • 12 stage shows offering glimpses of notable new technologies and applications: DVRs that know when to go to sleep, an On Demand video series that combats diabetes, cable voice services that follow users anywhere, a broadband-powered game that teaches math skills, and lots more. See highlights and presentations from the Imagine Park video archive.
  • 86 appearances by inventors, strategists, thinkers, developers, stage hosts and some of the brightest college students we’ve ever met.
  • 40+ products, services and inventions that are changing the way the world communicates.
  • 30 apps (and an unfathomable amount of clicking, scrolling and playing) in The App Pond.
  • 2 original research reports presenting new findings about digital product adoption and the real-world intersection of technology and people.
  • 3 start-up companies at Start-Up Alley that made more contacts than we can count.
  • 1 live hackathon (officially known as The Imagine App Challenge, powered by energy drinks, youthful exuberance, take-out food and some impressively original thinking about digital media applications.
  • 1 flash mob that took the show floor by storm in a joyous outburst of energy.
  • 10 sponsors that made Imagine Park possible.
  • More than 40 participating companies and universities that brought ideas and imagination to the stage.

Together, the numbers added up to a memorable and impactful three days that promise to influence the next generation of digital media apps and products - and the people who invent them.
